We are seeking an enthusiastic Fermentation Engineer to join our growing team.You will work in the Process Development Team, responsible for the development and optimization of fermentation processes, ready for scale-up. Your main task is to clean, set-up, and operate both in situ sterilizable and autoclavable fermentation equipment.Afterwards you gather and analyse the data generated during the fermentation experiments. You will evaluate the performance of both novel and established production hosts on different fermentation scales (shake flask and bioreactor scale) and critically analyse the results.You will report your results internally and propose strategies to further improve fermentation or strain performance. In addition, you will take responsibility in general lab tasks and use equipment in a safe and responsible way.
R&D
• A BSc, MSc in Microbiology, Biotechnology, Bio-engineering or similar;
• Ideally, you have hands-on experience with fermentation technology, but candidates with strong interest, the right mindset and the will to learn are also considered;
• You have experience in writing, optimizing, and following complicated protocols and SOPs;
• You are fluent in English;
• Knowledge about statistical packages such as R, Electronic Lab Notebook systems are a plus;
• Experience with fermentation process development is a plus;
• You are interested in R&D, innovation, and the development of novel biotechnological processes and have a critical scientific viewpoint;
• You can work independently and flexible, but are a team player and able to collaborate with other scientists on the development of new production processes;
• You are willing to learn new techniques and expand your knowledge;
• You have an eye for detail, work accurately and aim for qualitative work;
• You are capable to manage multiple experiments within a single day.
• You will run fermentation processes and be part of a Production Process Development Team, reporting to the teamlead;
• Together with the team, you will run experiments for several projects;
• You will prepare and execute experiments for scale-up of production processes and prepare products for downstream processing development;
• Analyse of fermentation data and reporting of results;
• Generate complete reports for experiments, based on the R templates but with relevant adjustments and customization;
• You will formulate conclusions and propose follow up experiments;
• Actively collaborate with Fermentation & DSP colleagues – support when needed;
• Suggest improvements of lab protocols and practices;
• You will introduce and report novel methods;
• Maintenance & correct handling of the lab equipment;
• Maintain safe practices and work environment;
• You will take responsibility in the lab (material management, order, safety...).
